I was on a coaching call with a filmmaker who’s trying to get ahead in creating an independent income from his video skills. He was telling me about how he was out networking one day and a business owner side-swiped his confidence and self-worth.

The person he was speaking with reached into their pocket, pulled out a cell phone, and proceeded to call him out on why he was making a mistake trying to build a video business:

“Why would someone pay you if I can shoot a video on my cell phone?

You’re wasting your time trying to make money selling videos with the accessibility of technology today!”

How would you handle it if somebody said this to you when you were just starting to pitch your video services – trying to put yourself out there for the first time?
