If there’s one skill I wish they taught me at film school it would be “how to sell my video services at professional rates”.
If you’re anything like me you spend a lot of time perfecting your craft so you can create amazing quality videos… yet when it comes to making money with our video services it often feels like a we have to sell ourselves short on our rates. We work way too many hours on projects for clients who demand the world from us (who refuse to pay for said time). We stress about where the next pay day will come from. Some of us even jeopardize our relationships with those we love in the process. All of this only to ‘barely scrape by’.
Thank God sales is a skill that anyone can learn or else the majority of us creatives would be screwed! That’s exactly what I’m going to teach you in my brand new book, “Five Steps To Getting A YES!”.
This book was designed to help you do just that – to become more confident in selling your services at higher raters (without being pushy or coming across as salesy). I’ll walk you through my exact step-by-step process that allows me to run sales meetings that get straight to the point and allows me to close deals at higher rates – a proceess that I refer to in this book as the Collaborative Close Blueprint.
Look, I’m not here to be another bullshit “hype” marketer – I’m just a guy who’s found a way to flow money through my business on my terms. My belief is that once you see the power of what this did for me you too can combine it with your personal ‘why’ so you can put it to work for you. I won’t sugar coat it for you though: You still have to put in the work. You have to be able to deliver high quality videos!
My story starts in November 2014 – at the time my girlfriend and I were together for 4 years and we were talking about how we wanted to take it to the next level and rent a place of our own in our dream city of Kelowna, BC (Canada). Being a freelance videographer it felt like an exciting and attainable goal – I’ve got plenty of time to get new customers and make some money. We even set a ‘move date’ goal of September 2015. I felt like I could rock it and do anything I set my mind to.
Boy was I in for a surpise…
Jump ahead to the morning of my 29th birthday (April 14, 2015). I woke up, looked at my bank balance and felt like a complete failure. I didn’t have a damn thing to show for the months that had passed, even though I was constantly ‘busy’ with projects. I didn’t have enough money to pay for that month’s expenses, let alone enough put aside in my savings account to feel confident moving to a brand new city in a different province in Canada.
It was one of the lowest points for me, but that became my wake up call to get serious with sales. Within the next 45 days I was able to close $26,492 (plus tax) using what I’m about to teach you with a surprising amount of ease.
The best part was that this result was from only 5 customers!
I vowed that I would no more offer $350-750 video projects, ever!
It was a busy few months, fulfilling those projects took most of my effort, but I can’t begin to describe how excited I was when I was driving home from the last sales meeting – when I could call my gal and tell her “I did it!!! I’ve now got the money we agreed I needed in place so we can move to Kelowna!!!”
We packed out bags and moved to British Columbia in September 2015. In fact, at the time of writing this book I can proudly say we’ve lived here for 13 months, and that’s not even the best part…
Not only was I able to move to the city that captured my heart and imagination, I’ve had my most financially successful year since quitting my full time job over 3 years ago.
The Collaborative Close Blueprint has not failed me. Even upon moving to a brand new city where I had no existing customer base (and with no back-up plan). I’ve even used this strategy to close my first 5 figure projects this year.
To some, that may not be as impressive – and I’m not sharing this to say “look at me!” – I share that with the hope and intention that it will resonate with your core. That you will read this book and it will be the catalyst that helps you step up and become the best salesman or woman that you can be.
At the end of the day I no longer stress about the ‘uncertainty’ of not having a job like I used to a few years ago, when I left my last full time position.
